Horace Joseph Hylton Grant, a beloved husband, father, and community leader, passed away on Sept. 23, 2024 at the age of 73. Horace was born in St. D'Acre, St. Ann, Jamaica, West Indies and came to the United States as an adult, determined to build a life of purpose and fulfillment.
Horace's life was defined by his unwavering faith in God, his devotion to his family, and his commitment to serving others. He was the son of Hylton and Ina Grant, and is survived by siblings Warren, Owen, and Dawn. Horace's education in Jamaica laid the foundation for his future success.
Horace began his career in the field of technology, working as a computer technician for NCR. His work allowed him to travel, and he spent time living in Mexico and Ohio before eventually settling in New York.
Horace's life was a testament to his belief that "hard work is better than ill-gotten gain." He met the love of his life, Enid, in New York City, and they were married for over 40 years. His wife did not cook in the kitchen without him being by her side. Enid would tell you that Horace was her hands and feet. He wanted the best for her and would never tell her no.
They were blessed with four children: Marque (Sheila), Richard (Felicia), Horace, and Ashley, as well as two beloved grandchildren, Renee and Reigna. His sons would say when Horace became a girl dad, his daughter made him a softer man who was willing to compromise and see the sillier side of things.
After retiring from NCR, Horace and his wife, Enid, moved to Florida and opened an interior design business focusing on window treatments, combining their passion for design and entrepreneurship. Horace's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He often would say "God is good and faithful," and his favorite Bible verse, Habakkuk 3:17-18, spoke to his unwavering trust and joy in the Lord. Horace's love for worship music filled his home, and he was a devoted member of Morningside Church, where he served for over 30 years.
Horace's legacy extends beyond his immediate family. He was a beloved figure in his community, known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others. He sang in the church choir, visited the sick and shut-in, served as an elder, and helped with various tasks at the church, always eager to serve in any way he could.
Horace's passions included watching wrestling, which he enjoyed as a bonding experience with his sons, and staying informed on current events and the weather, engaging in lively discussions with his family and friends. However, his greatest joy came from watching his children and granddaughters navigate the world, and he took great pride in their accomplishments. Knowing him, you would be a witness to the fact that he is humorous. He never met a stranger he wouldn't lovingly tease and when he was tickled by the puns and play on words in a conversation, his laughter would prove to be contagious.
There is a gaping hole in humanity without him. He was funny but serious, attentive but not intrusive, altruistic but self aware, opinionated and stubborn with a healthy dose of humility. This made him heavenly bound, and earthly good. It is true that Horace was a might many of valor. Horace Joseph Hylton Grant's life was a testament to the power of faith, family, and service. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones, his church community, and all who were touched by his kindness and compassion. May his memory be a blessing, and may his example inspire others to live with the same dedication and love that he embodied.
We have no doubt that he is home with His Lord rejoicing!
A visitation for Horace will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM with a funeral service will follow at Morningside Church, 2180 SE Morningside Blvd, Port St. Lucie, FL 34952.
