Known to his friends as “Yo Baby Yo, the Vietnam veteran was one of the first to light up his house and yard with 3,000 lights in 1981 Port St. Lucie. He would play Santa Claus on the roof for decades to the delight of thousands of visitors who knew where to go to receive the message of “Keep Christ in Christmas.”.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Sinbine worked for the New Jersey Central Railroad before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, serving two tours in Vietnam with a secret “Spooky” gunship unit.
Always the mechanical genius, he worked at Pratt Whitney for 14 years in West Palm Beach as an inspector for RL-10 rocket engines, used in dozen of satellites and the Space Shuttle program. He and his wife Kathy watched many a launch at Cape Canaveral.
Yo worked for Port St. Lucie Utilities before joining the maintenance team at St. Lucie County's stadium – home for New York Mets Spring Training and the Mets Single A farm team.
An avid supporter of Special Olympics, he raised on one occasion $700 by bicycling with the team from Deerfield Beach to Sebastian. A Third Degree Knight of Columbus member, Yo was one of the charter members of the Legion Riders from American Legion Post 318 in Port St. Lucie and also a lifetime member of Rolling Thunder.
He was an avid remote control boat skipper and a member of the St. Lucie River Model Boat Club, Indian River Model Sailing Club, and Stuart Model Sailing Club. Yo enjoyed relaxing on the water with the wind in his face and his fellow sailors.
George H. Sinbine was predeceased by his parents George H. Sinbine and Mariana Sinbine; brother William Sinbine, He is survived by his wife Kathy; sister Elizabeth Trela, son Stephen Sinbine, daughter-in-law Allie and grandson, Maverick, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A visitation for George will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Aycock Funeral Home, 1504 SE Floresta Drive, Port St. Lucie, FL 34983. A memorial service will occur Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM, 1504 SE Floresta Drive, Port St. Lucie, FL 34983. A committal will occur Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at White City Cemetery and Mausoleum, 3800 Sunrise Blvd, Fort Pierce, FL 34982.
