Francis “Frank” Henry Whalen Jr. of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away on Monday, October 7th, 2024, at the age of 94. He died peacefully at home with his stepson John Alpi and his hospice care workers by his side.
Frank was born in Mount Kisco on April 19th, 1930, to Frank Sr and Lillian Whalen. At a young age he joined the military and proudly served in the Marine Reserves. Then later to the Army where he was stationed in Japan during the Korean conflict as a Corporal for 2 years, and then continued his service in the Reserves for an additional 6 years. After the birth of his 3rd child Frank and his family moved to Katonah, NY. Frank dedicated his life to working for the New York telephone company in Mt. Kisco for over 34 years, before retiring as a supervisor in the repair bureau.
In May 1982 Frank married his second wife Dorothy Alpi and later moved to New Hampshire to a beautiful home overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee. Never a fan of New Hampshire’s long winters and constant snow, they decided to move to sunny Port St. Lucie, Florida in 1997 where they would spend their final years together.
Frank always loved his big family, sharing with them his favorite old Western movies, reading the comics out loud and teaching them the proper way to make an Old Fashion, always with Bourbon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Whalen, his sister Edith Shute(Bob), his brother John Whalen, his step daughter Suzanne Royer and daughter-in-law Lisa Whalen(Scott). He is survived by his children; Bruce Whalen(Joanna), Barbara McCall(Kevin), Patricia Nicolaysen(Paul), Lorraine Zufall (Artie) and Scott Whalen, his cousins Joan Wesley and Pamela Knox, his stepchildren; Robert Alpi (Andrea), Patricia Poland(Dwayne), Edward Alpi (Deena), Joanne Graef (Robert), John Alpi, William Alpi (Linda) and Kathleen Gannon (Thomas); his 22 grandchildren and step grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
