Vincent C. Sindelar

A Funeral Mass Celebrating the Life of Vincent C. Sindelar, of Daytona Beach, will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Church of the Epiphany, 201 LaFayette Street, Port Orange. He entered into eternal life on Friday, August 5, 2011. Visitation will be at the Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2011. He was born and raised in Saint Louis, MO by his parents, John and Lucil (Fabick) Sindelar on December 24, 1916. He grew up with 7 brothers, all deceased except for Anthony Sindelar (Lucille). He proudly served his country during World War II. He was in the United States Navy Construction Battalion (known as The Seabees) and was stationed in the South Pacific (Tinnian). He was attached to the Demoliton and Amphibious Unit with the rank of Vice Commander of Navy Seabee Island X-19. He worked for Fowler, Inc. as a General Superintendent, both before and after the war. Later he co-owned Blaise, Inc. and was a Mechancial Contractor in Centralia, IL. He moved to Malvern, AK where he owned the Town House Motel, then on to Daytona Beach where he owned the Embassy Motel, Yarns and Things, and finally the Don-Dee Craft and Miniature Shop. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, skiing and traveling. He was a past member of the Catholic Diocese of Belleville (Board Treasurer), St. Mary's School Board and Parish Council, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, National Rifle Association (CRI) and a Third Degree Knight and three times Grand Knight with The Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Church of the Epiphany and member of the Father John Washington Catholic War Veterans Post 1944, Daytona Beach; Charter Member of the V.F.W. in St. Louis, MD. Vincent was also in the Cursillo Movement where he did his Cursillo in Malvern, AK. He volunteered at The Emory Bennet Nursing Home in Daytona, serving coffee and donuts as long as he was able. He never lost his deep feelings for all service men and women! He is survived by his wife, Jean; and her six children: John Mazza, Paul Mazza (Jane), Judith Johnson (William), Mark Mazza (Theodora), Kathleen Skelton (Edwin), and Michael Mazza (Mary). He had four children with his first wife, Ruth; Robert Sindelar (Jodi), Richard Sindelar (Rebecca), Marcy Masteller (Ken), and Michael Sindelar (Patricia); also a brother, Anthony Sindelar (Lucille) of St. Louis, MO. Vincent had 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. While Jean has 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was Grandpa to them all! He was also Past Coordinator of Eucharistic Pertetual Adoration at Church of the Epiphany with his wife, Jean. Vince was a just and compassionate man, loved and respected by all. One of the highlights in his later life was the trip to Washington to see the World War II Memorial sponsored by The Honor Air and accompanied by Hon. John Mica of Florida.
