Born to Harry and Lorraine Mason in 1943 in the Parkchester section of the Bronx New York City, he was the younger brother to John “Doug” Mason. He was a natural athlete and excelled in every sport, but his true gift was basketball where he shined as a point guard and earned all New York City honors playing for Columbus High School, leading them to the city finals.
After playing at the University of Florida, Donald felt the strong desire to find his true calling and left for India where he spent almost a decade proving to be the most formative years of his life. There he met with many great mystics and learned the teachings from many great teachers. It was at the end of this time he met Sharita Mason and they were soon married and moved back to the West. After several years living across the US, they settled down back in his beloved New York City, where he lived until just recently when they relocated to Florida.
Donald loved to cheer on the University of Colorado Buffaloes and the Bronx Bombers, the New York Yankees, but nothing was more of a thrill for him than the NCAA March Madness tournament.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sharita Mason and their son Ananda Mason and his wife Elizabeth Harless-Mason and their children Ava and Aubrey Mason. He is also survived by his daughter from his first marriage Danielle Natanz and Majheed and her daughter Rumi. He is also survived by his older brother Doug and his children Randy and Greg Mason.
Donald touched the lives of everyone he met and his memory is a blessing for those that knew him.
