Juan "Johnny" Jose Perez, age 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Johnny was born September 7, 1953 to the late Pablo and Eloisa Cardona Garcia. He worked at Marshall Chevrolet for 20 years before working at Alcoa for almost 25 years. After he retired, he became a board chair of the Calhoun Port Authority. He was a member of the United Steelworkers. He enjoyed working on cars and tractors. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Gulf, including RCIA, Eucharistic Minister and CCD teacher. He was a loving PoPo and everything that entails, such as being a CCYFL Coach and going to countless football games, soccer games, dance recitals and band concerts.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Perez; daughters, Elissa Perez (Eric Lee) of Port Lavaca and Elena McLaughlin (Ian) of Katy; daughter-in-law, Nora Leonard (Robert) of Port Lavaca; step-sons, Frankie Chavana (Amanda) of Tomball and Mito Rodriguez of Port Lavaca; grandchildren, John Anthony Perez, Joshua Perez, Emma Perez, Sydney and Brynlee McLaughlin, Addison and Landry Chavana; and siblings, Hector Garcia (Naya) of San Marcos, and sister, Diana Cruz (Henry) of Karnes City. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Eloisa Cardona Garcia; first wife, Maria S. Perez; son, Juan Jose Perez Jr. "Jay"; and sister, Delfina Servantes.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 25, 2024 from 5-7PM at Richardson Colonial Funeral Home, with rosary beginning at 7PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 10AM at Our Lady of The Gulf Catholic Church, with burial following at Port Lavaca Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Anthony Perez, Joshua Perez, Ian McLaughlin, Eric Lee, Mito Rodriguez and Frankie Chavana. Honorary pallbearers will be Emma Perez, Sydney and Brynlee McLaughlin, Addison and Landry Chavana and Uncle Frank Servantes.
