Mr. Mabry graduated from Washington University in 1944 with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Upon graduation he went to work for the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) for 40 years as an engineer and manager. He started his career with ALCOA in East St. Louis, then transferred in 1961 to the Point Comfort Operations and the plant in Kingston, Jamaica. Mr. Mabry also worked on a variety of projects in Pittsburg, Italy, Brazil and was involved with the negotiations to bring Formosa Plastics to this community. Upon his retirement in 1983, he became active in the Boy Scouts of America and served on the Navigation Board. He was also an active member of his parish serving in the St. Vincent de Paul Society and also as a Eucharistic Minister and usher.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary K. Mabry; they were married March 2, 1946 at the Holy Redeemer Church in Webster Groves, MO. The couple had six, children, Frank J. Mabry Jr. and wife Melinda of Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y., John C. Mabry and wife Jill of Wausau, WI, Margaret M. Estrada and husband Robert of Houston, Linda M. Meyer and husband Karl of Port Lavaca, Christopher L. Mabry and wife Mary of Port Lavaca, and Theresa M. Dent and husband Tim of Port Lavaca. In addition to all his children, he is also survived by 18 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mabel Mabry and cousin, James Mahen.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 6, from 4-6 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 6 p.m., at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be at 2:00p.m.Monday, June 7 in Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church with Father Dan Morales officiating. Interment will follow in Port Lavaca Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Christopher J. Mabry, Patrick Mabry, Miguel Estrada, Jake Meyer, Cory Mabry, Ishmael Torres, James Beeler and Dr. Jack Beeler.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John Griffin, Dr. Paul Bunnell, Buddy Winder, Bernardo Garcia, Tom Flores, Frank Diebel, and Robert Alvarez.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas.
