July 14, 1932 - April 11, 2020
At the age of 87, Michael F. Cardarelli Sr. joined his beloved wife, Margit (Everson) Cardarelli in heaven after nearly 18 years apart. Born in Elmont to Mildred and Francesco ('Frank") Cardarelli, he grew up on Long Island and graduated from Sewanaka High School. Michael was a veteran of the Air Force and a menber of the Civil Air Patrol, through which he loved sharing his stories about one of his first loves; flying. He later spent many years as a flight instructor traveling all over the country.
Michael may have held many jobs throughout his career, but was a talented woodworker and carpenter. There was nothing he could not fix nor create. He was well known at Brookhaven National Laboratory where he began as a carpenter and rose to be in charge of all the trades before he retired as their General Supervisor for Building Maintenance and Service.
His true love was always his family. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family most of all. He dedicated his time to helping his son's Moose Football and Cub Scout pack, amongst many other things. Countless hours were spent cheering on his son and football teammates throughout their time in the Brookhaven-Comsewogue district, and later at Hofstra University. The teammates always knew and loved "Mr. and Mrs. C.", enjoying their pasta dinners, hugs and support.
He is survived by his daughter, Desiree Kelly, and son in law, Tom Kelly; his daughter, Mildred Ann Piazza, and her family; his son, Michael Cardarelli, daughter in law, Deirdre - and the lights of his life - his grandchildren, Samantha (13), Kristina (10) and Michael Anthony (6); as well as many family members and friends from across the country. He is predeceased by his loving wife Margit, daughter, Angela, and his step daughter, Barbara Ann ("Tammy"). He touched many people and has left an everlasting memory within each.
No services will be held at this time, he will be buried at Long Island National Cemetery, and a celebration in his honor will be held in the future. A scholarship is planned to be established in his honor at his son's alma mater, Comsewogue High School.
The family has been compassionately cared for by the O.B. Davis Funeral Home, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776.
