Florence C. Maloney, Ed.D, age 97, of Auburndale, Queens, NY passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Predeceased by her parents David and Catherine Maloney; her beloved sisters Mary C. McDermott and Catherine Molloy and brother-in-laws, John W. McDermott and Joseph P. Molloy. Florence lovingly leaves behind her two nephews, John D. McDermott (Kathy) and Joseph T. Molloy (Christine) and four nieces Marijane Hammer (Jim), Terry Boylan (Bob), Catherine Murphy (Bill) and Claire Sorice (John). Also nine grand nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews.
Florence led a life of service to the educational community for over forty years; the Catholic community, being the recipient of the Lincoln Dinner Harvey Moder Lifetime Achievement Award, the Republican and Conservative Parties and to her country as a teacher, a leader and inspiration to all.
Her service includes High School Teacher, Department Chairwoman, Junior High School Assistant Principal, Elementary School Principal, District Curriculum Supervisor and Professor; Department of Office Technology, City University of New York.
After retirement from the academic community, she initiated the joint parish Respect for Life Committee that joined sixteen parishes in Queens, NY; Rachels Helpers, the Legion of Mary and involved herself in all aspects of parish life. She was an inductee of the Pro-Life Hall of Fame, Diocese of Brooklyn.
Reposing at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776 on Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 5, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Gerard Majella R.C. Church, 300 Terryville Road, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776. Interment will follow at Mount Saint Mary's Cemetery, Flushing, NY.
