Mrs. G, or Big Barbara to me, is synonymous with my childhood. As my grandmother's best friend and neighbor, she was as much family as anyone, as were all of the Garrigans. Big Barabara always had a smile and a kind word for me (or kept me in line when needed)! My fondest memories include her with Daisy at her feet constantly, and yelling "Elsie!" every morning before she came in for their morning chats... my sister and I knew it was our wake up call. Another is piling in the car, often with Little Barbara, to run whatever errands she and my grandmother had to do. I also remember spending many a summer evening with my grandparents, Mr. G and Big Barbara sitting in the driveway and eating Mr. Softie. I know she is once again with Mr. G, Rudy and Elsie, sitting in the driveway talking about, well, everything. All my love, prayers and condolences to Little Barbara and the Garrigan family.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  Barbara was a beautiful, kind and loving mom to you all.  We have such fond memories of growing up across the street from the Garrigan family.  Wingate Road and the creek was our playground.  All the children entering and leaving 4 Wingate Road over the years some staying longer than others.  Barbara loved all her children equally whether they were her own or Foster children.  Wingate Road was a fun place to grow up and I never left.  I live around the corner on Pershing Avenue and pass our homes everyday and think if everyone and our memories.  May you find peace and love in your memories of both your parents Pat and Barbara.

So sorry for your loss.  Living across the street from The Garrigan family we have fond memories of our time spent together.  Barbara and Pat were such wonderful parents and I am sure you all have the best memories as their children. I live around the corner on Pershing Avenue and pass our homes everyday which helps to keep all those fond memories alive.

To all of my childhood friends: Clyde, Donny, Liz (Betty Jean as we knew her then) and, of course, Little Barbara, my most profound sympathy. Mrs. Gas I called her most of my lifewas a most important part of my growing up--my "other" mom. I actually remember them moving inI was upset that my playmate Danny had moved away. I did not realize then that I had traded up. Your mom always wore a smile and had a ready laughvery important traits (IMHO). As Ginny wrote, I remember well the Carvel runs but I think my best memories were of my mom and Mrs.G sitting out in our driveway in the afternoon with ice tea (or the occasional Diet Rite cola) or in the evening with both our dads. Her generosity was always on displayas was her caring. The parade of foster children that she took care of (until one stayed for a VERY LONG time--and ultimately became a member of the family) is evidence of that. Mrs. G also showed an abundance of patience and tolerance with all of us kidsespecially as we commandeered a portion of her backyard to erect our attempt at a clubhouse. Mrs. G may be gone but she will not be forgottenand I am sure that she and Elsie are sitting in a driveway enjoying an ice tea together. May she rest in the comfort of God and may she have eternal peace.

Growing up living across the street from Barbara and the family is one of my fondest memories of living in Valley Stream.  Barbara was always such a loving person to all the kids not only her own.  I spent much of my youth in and out of her house playing with Donny or Betty Jean or babysitting Barbara. The Wednesday Carvel ice creams, sitting in the drive way talking and laughing will always be with me. Barbara was my mother-in-law, Elsie's  best friend, but became not only a friend and confidant to me, but was a mother to me. I will always treasure our private talks and the love she gave me, my husband and children. I cannot speak of the memories my husband, Bernie, had as he grew up with the whole family next door...but the stories were wonderful to hear.
