11/07/1941 – 9/7/2021
On Tuesday, September 7, Kathleen Case, age 79, of Johnson City, N.Y., went to be with her Lord. Kathy was the daughter of Floyd Stephen Valentine and Dorothy Ruth Barrett Valentine, both of Binghamton. She is survived by her two sons Timothy (Eldersburg, MD) and Scott (Atlanta, GA), their wives Carolyn and Nicky, as well as six grandchildren, Joseph, James, Taylor, Lucas, Aidan and Sean. She is preceded to Heaven by her parents, her husband John Joseph Case and three grandchildren, Thomas, Liam and Finley Case. Kathy was born in Binghamton on November 7, 1941. She graduated from Chenango Valley High School in 1959. She attended Broome Community College and earned her Associates degree in dental hygiene in 1961. During her time at Broome is where she met her beloved husband John during a production of Finian’s Rainbow which
began a lifelong love of music and singing together. They were married in St. Patrick’s Church, Binghamton, NY on August 24, 1963. Kathy worked as a dental hygiene clinical instructor for Broome Community College starting in the early 60’s until 2009. For over 40 years, John and Kathy lived and raised their children in the Village of Port Dickinson. Kathy spent her life battling against the effects of Muscular Dystrophy – but the disease never slowed her down. She was actively involved in her community and church.
She was a Scout leader for Pack 126 and was also involved in supporting her sons’ activities at Chenango Valley High School. Additionally, Kathy was a dedicated member and leader of Ogden Hillcrest United Methodist Church - singing in the choir and serving on the altar guild for most of her adult life. She loved cooking for her family, vacationing by the ocean, reading and gardening. However, the thing that brought her the most joy
was the time she spent with her family and grandchildren. A viewing will be held for Kathy at Ogden Hillcrest United Methodist Church, 1061 Chenango St, Binghamton, NY on Saturday September 11 from 10-11 AM followed by a funeral service at 11 AM. Her body will be laid to rest at Chenango Valley Cemetery, 120 Nowlan Rd Binghamton NY,
immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations made in Kathy’s name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (https://mda.donordrive.com/campaign/Kathy_Case_memorial) or Ogden Hillcrest
