Gary was born on February 4, 1944 to the late Roland and Frances Hazen in Binghamton, NY. He served in the U.S. Army and was a true patriot to our country. Gary then married Dorothy ("Dottie") Youket in Binghamton, NY in September 1963. They moved to Chenango Bridge, NY, where they went on to raise their family on Highland Road. After the children grew up, Gary and Dottie moved to farmland on Copeland Road in Greene, NY in 1994, living in a house Gary designed and built himself.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Dorothy, three children: Gary David Hazen, Kristie Folan (husband Sean) and Kevin Hazen (wife Shannon) and four grandchildren: Ian, Hannah, Rileigh and Elaina. Gary is also survived by his sister Janice Pandich (husband Mike) and brother Wesson Hazen (wife Dorothy) along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and the close community forged on Highland Road.
Gary was a respected local business owner who was passionate about serving his community. He served for a time as President of the Binghamton Sertoma Club as well as on many other committees over the years. Gary and Dottie were soulmates who together cared deeply for their family, friends and anyone in need. Gary enjoyed working, Ice hockey, golfing, farming, fishing, hunting, sheep herding, and spending time with family and friends. He loved driving his John Deere tractor around his mountaintop land as he took care of the property. He was a devout Roman Catholic who recited the Divine Mercy prayer and prayed the Rosary every day.
The Hazen family would like to express its sincere gratitude to all of the health care providers that helped to keep Gary alive throughout his long illness. They would also like to thank Father Paul Machira and Late Deacon Dale Grey for bringing the sacraments and spiritual guidance to him while he was homebound.
The family will receive friends at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 282 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 9-10AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 10AM. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
