She needed someone in her life

knew not who that might be

but he was right there all along

and yet she did not see

Then one day there was a spark

when she looked into his eyes

she knew that he was calm and kind

so that was no surprise

It took some time to make a start

but eventually they knew

that they would be together

and that their love was true

He was a man of so few words

but he could speak from the heart

in the beautiful love letters

whenever they were apart

For decades life was wonderful

they traveled far and wide

they saw the world together

it was quite a heady ride

But time it brought an illness

with no help from above

Ron knew not how to stay on Earth

but he did know how to love

ALWAYS.

They say life begins at 40 and mine did.  Ron opened up my world. 

He loved travelling and we travelled a lot.  We made a good team.  Ron was the smart, quiet geography expert and we would engage in conversations with fellow travelers who, in many cases, became lifetime friends with whom we took subsequent trips.  

We had so much fun together.  We took a backpacking night school course put on by North Shore Rescue.  Then we backpacked with them for 3 days in the mountains in Pemberton.  When we got down the mountain, Ron pulled a case of beer out of the trunk of the car.  The group loved him. 

We took x-country skiing lessons in Whistler.  We x-country skied in Austria and stayed in a quaint hotel by a lake in Zel-am-zee. We skied through tracked fields with castles in the background and kiosks selling goulash soup.  Also, every year we went to Winter Park, Colorado and skied on meandering trails at Devil’s Thumb Ranch, with blue skies above and spectacular mountains in the backdrop.

Ron introduced me to golf. Every year in Kauai, we golfed at a picturesque golf course called the Kukiolono (the Kuki) with breathtaking views of the ocean.

Another fun thing - we would pack a lunch and be gone for the day riding our bikes. He rode a bike better than me and sometimes had to pick me up out of the ditch.  

We took dancing lessons too.  So many wonderful memories.

Ron was one of the smartest people I knew.  He could calculate in his head.  He would check the restaurant bill and often found mistakes.  He loved his watch – always knew what time it was.  Great memory too!  Movie trivia whiz.  

Ron was an amazing person.  He was loving, kind, funny, and punctual, smart, determined and hardworking, a tough negotiator.  A great guy.

Ron and I shared some of our happiest moments together.  Because of Ron, I had a life that I loved with the with the love of my life.

Ron loved his lawn. Watching him mow it was my inspiration to maintain my yard and remain in our house, in spite of debating every year to downsize to an apartment. If Ron could do it, so could I!

And he left his lawn looking the best I’ve seen in years.

I will remember Ron as a kind and generous host, always ready to offer a beverage, a chair, or whatever else to make a guest, or a brother-in-law, comfortable.  My best memories of him are of chatting about the news in front of the TV but I particularly recall once, long ago, when I asked him about the energy from waste plant that was associated with the paperboard plant he ran.  He responded with a fascinating and detailed description of the business and technical operations of the energy facility and then on to the paperboard plant itself.  Such a fine man; he will be missed by all – it’s hard to imagine Chloe at their home without Ron.

Hahah it didn’t matter what the situation papa always had his photo smile on deck. A true master.

One of My favorite family trips. Wed load up and rent a house in silver star. Snowboard all day hot tub and eat all night. I’ll give you one guess at who was making drinks, only once we were old enough of course. Snowmobiling is something I’ll never forget, it was so much fun. I remember Papa had to take my grandma back as a passenger, when she was too scared to keep chaperoning  Mark (my 15yr old friend) because he was going too fast. I know strange right, she wasn’t worried about papa driving  too fast.

There’s no risk of cliche, as any one that knew him, knows, Papa was truly one of a kind.  The eternal host, probably mixing my brother a ceaser right now. Your spirit will live on whenever we serve our family drinks and your memories cherished as we reflect on an incredible life. Love you #foreverinourhearts

Ron and my mother Chloe were together for 44 years, since 1979. I would thank you Ron at this time for your authentic kindness to my Mom, Sister Tammie, Nephews Tyson and Josh and Brother in law Paul, all those many years. Countless good times  on vacations and family dinners. You are one of the best host known to mankind, looking after everyone in the room.  I know you will continue to watch over your daughters, family and friends you loved so much going forward. I will miss our 4:00 happy hours with Mom. Until we meet again in the sweet hereafter I wish you well. 

PS I love this picture of you. It gives the Mona Lisa a run for her money!!!

Ron, our dear friend and next door neighbor of over 40 years will be greatly missed.  The memories of sharing many dinners, summer time happy hours in his back yard, and two fabulous cruises will bring us comfort and put a smile on our face.  

Ron liked to sit back and let others do the talking, but when he did enter into the conversation, his opinions were thoughtful and interesting.   He also had a razor sharp memory on cinema trivia. 
 
Our condolences to his wife, Chloe, our dear friend, her children, Tammie and Curtis and Ron's daughters and spouses, Elaine and Bruce, Lori and Brad, Kathy and her spouse, and all the grandkids.
