Ray Fournier was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. Throughout his life, he touched the hearts of all who knew him with his kind and gentle spirit. He had a passion for golf and spent many happy days on the green, traveling across the country with his golfing buddies, enjoying the camaraderie of the sport. He was a man who had such patience and could fix almost anything computer related by finding solutions when it seemed all hope was lost. Ray spent much of his time watching his grandson’s play lacrosse and had a pretty permanent seat at the Poirier arena. His grandchildren were the light of his life and seeing them happy with basketball, dance, drawing and anything that brought them joy, brought him joy. Ray loved to retreat to his recreational property at The Glen at Maple Falls where he would ride his bike, catch up on creating his jokes of the week and playing Mahjong.
As a dedicated Psychiatric Nurse and teacher he found his community with like-minded people whom he respected and cared deeply for. He began working as a recruiter for the Psychiatric Nursing program starting at BCIT and later retired after 40+ years at Douglas College in New Westminster. Ray made a significant impact on the lives of those he worked with and taught. His compassion and dedication were evident in everything he did, and his students benefitted greatly from his guidance and support. He had a way to connect on such a personal level. With 30 years of teaching he even remembered many of the students names and specific details about them. This was a gift he had and a testament to his genuineness and how he truly valued people.
Ray will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. The loss is felt deeply by son Paul, daughter Karin, son-in-law Shaun, and cherished grandchildren Carter, Brady, Nathan and Lily. Knowing that he is at peace and is now comfortable helps us through this pain. His sisters Simone(Bill), Janice, Mary Alice(Julien) and Rita(Bill) as well as his brother Miles(Kathy) and the many nieces and nephews who loved him share in this unmatched grief.
His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Please remember him when you see a hummingbird as they brought him great comfort. May he rest in peace, knowing that he made a lasting and meaningful difference in the lives of so many. We are very lucky and grateful to call him our Dad.
