In loving memory of Carole May Treloar, who passed away with her children by her side at Fair Haven Homes in Burnaby on Saturday November 30, 2024 at the age of 80. Predeceased by her devoted husband Doug in 2020, Carole was a beloved mother to Doug Jr., Colleen, and Jason; a cherished grandmother to Hilary and Ava; a much-loved sister to Sheila; a special aunt and good friend to many; and a long-time Port Coquitlam Lion. Carole will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Born October 14, 1944 at Vancouver General Hospital to Thelma and Jack Taylor, Carole grew up in East Vancouver with her sister Sheila, and was a proud alumni of John Oliver Secondary School.
Through her longtime friend, fellow Job’s Daughter, and future sister-in-law Marilyn, Carole met her husband-to-be Doug in the early 60’s. Carole and Doug were married on May 23, 1964 at Vancouver’s iconic Fraserview United Church in Vancouver surrounded by friends and family. In 1965, they settled in the then tiny suburb of north Port Coquitlam to raise their family. They had 3 children; son Doug Jr. (“Dougie”) followed by their daughter Colleen, and finally their youngest son Jason.
Carole worked at Colony Farms and the Registered Nurses Association of BC in the 70’s before joining the BC Cancer Agency in the 80’s. A valued colleague and employee for more than 30 years, Carole was honoured to continue working with the Cancer Agency for several years after her retirement, always ensuring everyone she interacted with felt cared-for and assisted.
Carole was also a very proud Lion with the Port Coquitlam Lions Club, serving as Treasurer, Chair of Health and Wellness, and Vice President during her tenure. A dedicated and community minded volunteer, Carole was described as a person with a heart that was filled with kindness, someone who was committed to her Club, and a Lion who was passionate about serving her community. Her extraordinary drive and selfless community service earned her the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2021.
Carole cherished her family first and foremost, and especially her 2 grand-daughters Hilary (age 31) and Ava (age 14). Those who remember Carole will recall her great love for her entire family and for her friends, her quick and easy smile, and her kind and extremely generous nature.
Carole's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Fair Haven for their compassionate and outstanding care over the past 2 years. Their support not only for Carole but for the whole family during this challenging time was extraordinary.
A celebration of life and reception will be held at the Burkeview Chapel at First Memorial Funeral Services in Port Coquitlam on Friday December 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carole’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
