Mary Dolores Gorman, affectionately known as Dolores to her friends and "Gooma" to her beloved family, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2024, in Port Charlotte, FL. Born on February 15, 1942, in Newark, NJ, Dolores's radiant smile and kind heart touched many lives during her 82 years.
Dolores was the cherished wife of the late William J. Gorman, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and adventure. Together, they created a beautiful family and built a legacy of warmth and generosity that will live on through their children, William J. Gorman Jr. (Patricia), Tracey Malone (Doug Miller), Kevin (Sally) Gorman, and Shawn Gorman. She was a nurturing grandmother to Kimberly (Cody) Stroman, Calla Gorman, Johnny Malone, Kyle (Danielle) Malone, and Brianna (Aron) Tobolski, and took immense joy in her role as a great-grandmother to Knox Stroman, Palmer Stroman, Amelia Tobolski, Maverick Tobolski, and Kyson Malone. Dolores was also a loving sister to Caroline Sigler and a dear aunt to Carolann and George.
Dolores's professional life was marked by her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to service. She and her husband proudly owned and operated Mr. Donut of Port Charlotte, serving the community with a smile and a delicious treat. Later, she retired from Publix after 13 years of committed service, where she was known for her friendly demeanor and loving nature.
A woman of many passions, Dolores's beautiful soul shone brightly through her love of taking care of her family. Her family enjoyed watching her make her perogies and traditional Polish dishes, which she prepared with love for family gatherings. Her green thumb was evident in her love for gardening, and she found peace and joy in tending to her plants. Dolores's smile was a constant, reflecting her positive outlook on life and the happiness she found in simple pleasures.
An avid sports fan, Dolores enjoyed watching tennis, cheering for the Florida State Seminoles, and rooting for her favorite teams, the Florida Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, and Miami Dolphins. She and William cherished their time entertaining friends at home, exploring new destinations on cruises, and experiencing the excitement of Las Vegas. Dolores also had a fondness for playing cards and watching game shows. In her younger years, she could be found following her favorite soap operas and she was an enthusiastic bowler, always ready to roll a strike with grace.
Loving, kind, and friendly are but a few words to describe Dolores, and her legacy is one of unconditional love and a life well-lived. She never raised her voice in anger, instead choosing to express her care and affection through her actions and the warmth of her company. Dolores's life was a testament to the power of a positive spirit and the impact one person can have on the lives of many.
Dolores's family finds comfort in their memories and the knowledge that she is now at peace. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire them, just as the memory of her unwavering love and the sound of her laughter will remain in their hearts forever.
She is survived by her devoted dog, Daisy, who was her loyal companion and brought her endless joy in her final years.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Southport Square for the care and support they provided to Dolores in her time of need. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the light she brought into this world will never fade. Dolores's life was a beautiful journey, and those who had the privilege of walking beside her will cherish the path they shared.
