LOUISE (LENTZ) BANKARD
Louise Mary Bankard, 96, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 28, 2018. She is preceded in death by her cherished husband of 30 years, Harry T. Bankard, by her parents Colonel Bernard Lentz and Edna Vosburgh Lentz; and by her brothers Barney and Jerry Lentz.
Louise is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Knudsen, son Daniel Bankard (Lisa), step daughters Candie Delnore (Vic), and Ginger Stein (Jeff); seven grandchildren including Magdalena Kent, Logan Bankard, Penny Palen, Scott Palen, Wendy Palen, Jodie Stein and Nathaniel Stein; and four great grandchildren.
Louise was born in Denver, Colorado and as the child of an Army Colonel, she had the opportunity to live in many places in the United States, from New York to Hawaii and numerous places in between. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1941. Throughout her career Louise had various jobs, including numerous positions with ABC Radio near Lincoln Center in New York City and Personnel Officer at the Oceanside Union Free School District in New York. Before retiring in Port Charlotte, FL she and Harry raised their children in Oceanside, NY where both were elders of the local Presbyterian church. She lived a full and unusual life for her time, a life made especially rich by countless friends.
Louise was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte and was an enthusiastic member of the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club where she served as President of the Harbor Lites for several years. She loved exploring the world with friends, the beach, playing bridge, watching the sunset and being with family.
We lovingly remember our Mom and Grandma as a woman who was wise, had quiet wit and sense of humor, showed kindness and compassion for others, loved people, and was highly intelligent and interested in the world. Most of all we will remember her and love her always for the sunlight she brought into the life of everyone who knew her.
Our special thanks to the staff of South Port Assisted Living and Tidewell Hospice staff and volunteers for the kindness and care they gave her during the sunset of her life.
A memorial celebrating her life is being planned for the spring with details to come. In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembering and honoring her at Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club Endowment Committee or First Presbyterian Church of Pt Charlotte.
