Eunice Irene Huhn, 90, of Temple Texas, formerly of Port Arthur, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Temple Living Center in Temple. She was born on June 28, 1921, in Winnsboro, LA to the late William and Christina Riley. She was a former resident of Port Arthur for 42 years before moving to Temple Texas. She retired from St. Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur with over 30 years of service as a registered nurse in the emergency room. Eunice was a member of the Day Lillies Society of Port Arthur and served as a Worthy Matron of Honor for the Eastern Star. She was a WWII veteran and proudly served her country in the United States Army earning the rank of second lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corps.
Eunice could best be described as a caring, independent and hardworking person who cared for others at times greater than herself. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her family. Her hobbies including gardening and travel but her true passion in life were her grandchildren.
A gathering of her family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 9:00a.m. until 10:00 a.m., at Grammier – Oberle Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Grammier- Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur, with burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, Texas.
Eunice was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her sister, Desta Burns of Shreveport, La; Daughters, Susan Pattillo and her husband Douglas of Bridge City; Patricia Werner and her husband Fred of Temple Texas; grandchildren, Tiffany Higgs, Mark Higgs, Wesley Werner, and Christopher Casey Werner
