Barbara Ann Crochet Richard of Port Arthur, Texas passed away peacefully on September 14th, 2023 while surrounded by her loved ones. Barbara was 1st born to the late Lovencie & Lee Ann Crochet in New Iberia, Louisiana, on July 30th, 1942. She had one sister, Bonnie Jean Crochet, who was born with muscular dystrophy, and whom Barbara helped care for all of her young and adult life.
When Barbara was in grade school, her family like many others made the migration from Louisiana to Texas during the Oil Field Boom. They settled in the town of Port Arthur where in grade school she met the love of her life, her one and only sweetheart Curtis " Dickie" Richard. The two had a love story made for the books. They were inseparable, with Dickie often skipping his own classes in school to go sit with Barbara in hers. It didn't take the couple long to decide that they were made for one another and we’re married on March 7th,1960.
She and Dickie would go on to have 4 children and would extend the family even more with 10 grandkids & 7 great-grandchildren. Barbara having been a care taker for her sister, Bonnie Jean, for all of her life knew at a young age that being a “mother” was her calling in life. She knew no greater joy than serving the Lord, her children and grand babies.
She is survived first by her loving husband, Dickie; Her firstborn Kirk, his daughter Misty and her daughters Kelseigh, Hannah, and Isabella, and his late son, Dade.
Firstborn daughter, Lettie, her son Kody and his wife Monica, daughter Kaisha and her daughters Synia and Neaveh and lastly her son Travis and his son Jude.
Second daughter Kathy, her husband Mike, and sons Garrett, Lee and Aaron.
Last born son, Kent and his wife MIssy, his daughter, Kenli, her husband Esteban, their daughter Cameelah and finally Kent's son, Shiloh and his fiancé' Kaitlea.
There are many things about her that her family and community will miss like Her serving as the head of the Eucharist Chapel for 8 yrs, her reading Mass in leu of Father from time to time or her giving the Blessed Sacrament with the CCD for many years or traveling to rodeos with her husband and boys who competed all over the United States in Professional Rodeo for a combined total of at least 40 years or more. The one thing that they will miss the most is her unconditional love to all. There could never be another to light up a room with just a smile and fill it with contagious laughter and warmth, and the meals she would make with such care and talent will all be dearly missed. She by nature was a caretaker and that truly was her greatest love, to take care of her family.
The family would like to invite everyone who knew Mrs. Barbara to celebrate her life and legacy by joining them for funeral services.
