Robert Donald Ouellette

Predeceased by parents, Gedeon and Alma, and brother Narcise.

Survived by loving wife of 52 years, Linda; children, Marc, Marlea (Mike), Matthiew (Tonya), John (Lorraine), Clare (Al), Karen (Frank) ; grandchildren Bobbie-Lynn (Chris), Nicole, Barbara (Kent), Randi, Danni, Kortney, Joshua, Jesse, Sarah, Eric, Jocelyn, Julia, Taylor, and Jaden; great grandson Kaleb; siblings, Jeanette (Bob), Delia (George), Andy (Sharon); sister-in-law Anna Marie, many nieces and nephews, cousins and Aunts and Uncles.

Born in Pickardville, a small farming community in Alberta, Bob attended the Catholic school there then graduated from Westlock High School. After graduating from school he worked building grain elevators then joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served in Victoria. While there he met and married Linda. After leaving the RCN, Bob studied at home to become a First Class Power Engineer. In the early 70’s, along with a Member of Parliament who lobbied on his behalf, Bob passed the first Private Members Bill that passed with a 100% majority that allowed ex-ensited military personnel to be credited for trade skills acquired while serving in the military. The family moved to Cedar where Bob worked for Harmac, MacMillian & Bloedel in Powell River, and MacMillian/Bloedel and APD in Port Alberni. In the early 70’s Bob was one of the founders of the BC Institute of Power Engineers. Over the years Bob had many hobbies. He was a voracious reader. He also loved camping in the motor home, gardening, and watching Hockey Night in Canada and playing cards. Family was very important to Bob as well as maintaining ties to his family back on the prairies. He took countless trips back to visit family in Alberta and especially adored his grandchildren.

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, June 16th, 2011 from the Royal Canadian Legion #293, 4680 Victoria Quay. Cremation has taken place. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca
