Born in Port Alberni to pioneer parents, Bob and Elizabeth Darby; Jim was the youngest of four children. He was raised on the family farm in Beaver Creek and remained there for his entire life. He spent his years working on the farm and was a long time employee of Rayner and Bracht. He also cut hay for many farms around the valley and continued this well into his 70's.
Jim was most at home in the outdoors and was passionate about hunting and exploring the Beaufort, Alberni Valley and surrounding area. In his later years, he was happy to walk his property, sit near his garden, and just soak up the beauty of his home.
Survived by his wife, Phyllis Darby, and daughters, Doreen (Ted) and Heather; four grandchildren: Spencer, Sydney, Cole and Isla; as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and his special four-legged friend, Rosie.
A Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 4005 6th Avenue, Port Alberni, BC followed by a reception at 3:00pm at Fred Austin Hall, Trinity Church (former St. Alban’s) 4766 Angus Street, Port Alberni, BC.
