It is with saddened hearts that we say good-bye to our family matriarch and mother Laura Talbot. Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 13, 2018 at home with her son Glen close by. Laura was born in Port Essington, BC. She was predeceased by her husband Earl Talbot and daughter Gloria Fulton, and is survived by her six children: Glen Talbot, Karen Zabinsky (Peter), Fran Poaps (Chuck), Charlotte Talbot (Lyn), Charles Talbot, and Laurie Voysey (Greg), sixteen grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves a large extended family and many close friends.
She will be remembered for her strong will and fearlessness. Mom enjoyed championing causes that were close to her heart. The first was the organizing of BCANSI, as well as Helping Spirit Lodge and their second stage housing (a safe house for women and children fleeing domestic violence), Rainbow Gardens (a seniors home that advocates for priority placement of Aboriginal people), and for her involvement as an elder in the Vancouver school district telling stories and teaching youth crafts, such as knitting and crocheting.
Cremation has taken place, no service by request. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
