Irene Lorraine Grasdahl, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Port Alberni, British Columbia on April 16,2024 at the age of 94. Despite facing challenges of Alzheimer’s/Dementia, Irene remained a pillar of strength and resilience throughout her long and fulfilling life. Born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan on December 8,1929. Irene’s life was also a testament to strength, resilience, and an unwavering love for family.
Irene was predeceased by (Father) Edwin Grasdahl Sr. and (Mother)Katherine Bendig- Grasdahl. Siblings, Clifford (Kathy), Irene Loraine the 1st, Corrine, Kenneth, and Edwin Jr.
Survived by her youngest siblings Angeline and Stanton (Patty). Her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and all her children.
Irene’s early years were spent on farms in Saskatchewan, where she developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the simple things in life. She later moved to Winnipeg, where she met and married her first husband John Frazer on August 28,1948. Together, they build a life filled with love and laughter, raising eight children. Gordon (Annette), Elaine (Helmet), Linda (Kenneth), Clarence (Susi), Fern, Cindy, Bernard (Sandra) and Priscilla (Randy).
In 1956, Irene and John embarked on a new adventure, moving their young family to Port Alberni. Here, they created a warm and welcoming home, filled with music, laughter, and the aroma of home cooked meals. Irene was the heart of the family, always there with a hug, a kind word, and a playful joke. Her generous spirit and infectious laughter touched everyone who knew her.
Following a new chapter in her life, Irene married Harold Warren on July 23,1974. She continued to be a warm and inviting presence, radiating beauty both inside and out.
Beyond her role as a devoted mother, Irene was a woman of many talents and passions. She possessed a green thumb that transformed her garden into a vibrant oasis. Her woodworking skills were unmatched, turning wood into beautiful and cherished creations. She loved dancing, exploring the outdoors, and even embarked on adventurous hunting trips. With the spirit of adventure, Irene loved to explore the world around her. Whether taking to the skies or hitting the open road, she followed her heart wherever it led, embracing new experiences with enthusiasm and joy. Irene lived by the motto: “Don’t ever say you can’t do something, anything you dream you can make it happen.” This spirit was evident in everything she did, from building a camper for her large family to participating in bathtub races and stooking contests.
Irene’s legacy lives on through her large and loving family, including her 17 grandchildren, Ashley, Drew (Vicki) Andre, Robyn, Christopher, Corey, Sean (Sherri), Tammy, Tanya, Tandy (Lloyd), Crystal (Mike), Renee, Lindsey (Ryan), Colin, Melissa (Cameron), Brian (Vanessa), Jessica, 17 great-grandchildren (with one more on their way), and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her story reminds us to embrace life’s adventures, cherish our loved ones, and never give up on our dreams.
