Predeceased by husband Jim, daughter Janet and 9 siblings. Survived by children Dave (Josee), Denise (Mike), Ken (Linda) and Paul (Shelly); grandchildren Joel, leah, anna, Nadine, Brooke, Marie, Elizabeth, Michael, Adam, Michala, Evan and Landon, great-grandchildren Amber, Grace and Jordon; extended family Stephanie, Monica, Arik, Lohgin, Aidin, Wihloh and Maysin; 6 sibling as well as many nieces and nephews.
Born on the prairies, Bernie moved with her siblings to Port Alberni in the late 50’s looking for work. She worked at the Plywoods Mill until meeting and marrying Jim and starting a family of her own. She volunteered for many years with the CWL, Alberni Valley Hospice, Smith School and at John Paul II Catholic school. She also joined the Sunshine Club. She was always involved in crazy capers and entertaining to make people smile and laugh. Bernie was a caring and giving person who talked to anyone and everyone. She made so many lasting connections with people.
Prayers will be held at 7pm, Friday, May 24 from Chapel of Memories, 4005 – 6th Ave with a Funeral Mass at 11am, Saturday, May 25 at Notre Dame Roman Catholic church 4731 Burke Road with Father Peter Switzer officiating.
