Bill "Billy Garland" Harris also known over the road as “Country Bumpkin” went to his eternal home of glory on February 5th, 2020, surrounded by his closest family and friends. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 29 years, Charlotte Miller Harris, his most faithful companion, Jake, and his life-long devoted best friend, Bert Gentry. He was born on September 26, 1941, to the late Garland and Mary Louise Harris. Siblings include Gary Spooner, Mary Lou Ellis, Susan Herrin, Laura Jane Herrin, and the late Sherry Ann Lumpkin. He is also survived by two children and four grandchildren.
Bill was a retired truck driver for Big Springs Cattle Company and Holliday Construction, a retired member of International Union of Operating Engineers (Local 624 - Jackson, MS), and Pearl River County Maintenance and Road Department. His most admiral quality of this earthly world was his restoration by the grace of God as a sober man for the last 18 years devoting him to his faith, family, and friends.
He was a member of Oak Hill Pentecostal Church (604 Oak Hill Rd, Poplarville, 39470) where visitation will be held on Saturday, February 8th, 2020, from noon until 2pm with services to begin thereafter. A trucker convoy lead by his pallbearers will humbly escort their hero, Bill, to his eternal place of rest at McNeill Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the service. Officiating will be Brother Larry Head and Jeff Easterling with music lead by Oak Hill Praise Team. Pallbearers include: Tony “Woodrow” Wilson, Steven “Erkel” Gentry, Chad “Goat” Smith, Joseph “JT” Turner, Officer Joe Garcia, and Justin “Rabbit” Nuccio. Honorary pallbearers include: Lawrence Holliday, Jack Head, James “Snuffy” Smith, Buddy Moody, O’Brien “Day Breaker” Hodge, Johnny Earl “Doc Feel Good” Jourdan, Marvin “Red Beard” Roche, Scotty Boyte, Sambo Gentry, and Harley “Squeaky” Smith. Family and friends are invited back to Oak Hill Pentecostal Church Fellowship Hall for food and fellowship at 4:30pm.
The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the hospice team for the care they delivered to Bill over the last several months as well as to all of the extended family and friends for their support during this time.
