Linda Joy Besser Pullen was born to the late Robert James (Ruth E.) Besser and the late Clovis Virginia “Jinny” (Kia Olaf Christian, Sr.) Johansen in Cook County, Illinois.
Linda Joy Pullen was a very intelligent, loving woman with a passion for her family, books, and games. She graduated from Picayune Memorial High school in 1969 and from Pearl River Community College in 1971. She used her Bookkeeping degree to get her first job at Movie Star, where she met her husband, Roger. After staying home a few years with her two amazing kids, she re-entered the workforce taking jobs at Piggly Wiggly, T-W-L, and Western Auto. She worked at Myrick Insurance Agency for a few years and in 1990, was hired at Country Living Insurance where she worked for 31 years.
Linda was an awesome Wife and loving mom, but she loved being a Maw Maw. Nothing brought her greater joy than bragging on her granddaughters. At work they said if you ever wanted to distract Linda, get her talking about her granddaughters. She would be the first to tell you that she has five of the most beautiful, talented granddaughters around.
Linda had a heart for service in her younger years. She was a Sunday School teacher at Derby Baptist Church and often participated in benefit fish fries throughout southern Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama…(Best Hushpuppies ever!!!!) One of the things she loved the most was being a chaperone for the Green Machine Marching Band. In four years, She never missed a game or a marching competition. As she got older, you could still find her in the stands on Friday night supporting her Poplarville Hornets and cheering on the Green Machine Marching Band.
Linda Joy had a passion for reading and games. She was forever reading a book and there was not a time that she did not have three or four checked out from the Poplarville Library. She also loved game shows! She and her family were even on The Family Feud (the one with Richard Dawson and yes, she got a kiss!). She loved watching Jeopardy, Match Game, and Password.
There are so many little things that we will miss about Linda. Her love of t-shirts with funny sayings on them, gel pens with purple ink, and the way she always hid bags of peanut M&Ms all over the house are just a few things that made Linda so uniquely wonderful. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and community.
The outpouring of love and prayers during Linda’s illness helped comfort not only Linda, but her family and friends and we are forever grateful.
Family members include her husband of 49 years, Roger Lee Pullen; two children, Cara Marie (Clifton) Bond, Darren (Alissa) Pullen; grandchildren, Alyssa (Zach) Varnado, Arianna Lynn Pullen, Caydence Leigh Bond, Jaden Grace Bond, Rayleigh Brogden; siblings, the late Paul Besser, the late David Johansen, Mack (Carol) Besser, Robert (Theresa) Besser, Naomi (the late Gary) DiMartinis, Cheri Berry, Nancy (Don) Nolan, David (Cathy) Besser, Pete (Maria) Besser, Glenn (Christie) Johansen, Kathy (Robert) Burr, Chris (the late Christine) Johansen, and Inga (Gary) Evans.
