The memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Poplarville on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. Visitation begins at 9:00 am and the service will follow at 11:00 am. The graveside service will begin immediately after at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Gentry was born August 13, 1934 in Nicholson, Mississippi to Wilbur Wesley Gentry and Eula Dee Baughman Gentry. He enlisted in the United States Navy on June 9, 1952 and served aboard the USS Amphion. He was discharged from military service on August 12, 1955 in Charleston, South Carolina. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry and became a Registered Forester. He held memberships in the Society of American Foresters and the Mississippi Forestry Association. He was a former Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America; a former member of the Poplarville Board of Aldermen; a member of the Jaycees; and a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a lifelong member of Poplarville First United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Sue Burks Gentry; and one sister, La Dee Riker.
Family members include two children, Bert (Debbie) Gentry, Samuel (Patti) Gentry; two brothers, Bryan A. Gentry, Robert E. Gentry; six grandchildren, Chad Smith, Suzanne (Tony) Wilson, Steven Gentry, Jessica (Dustin) Hariel, Wesley (Kayla) Gentry, Sam Gentry; nine great grandchildren; and a vast extended family.
