Captain Harold was born December 6, 1929 and grew up in the Piney Woods of Alabama to William A. and Savannah Kizziah Smith. He began his career on the Alabama rivers as a deckhand on tugboats, and, after many marine miles and many years, he reached his goal of becoming a Crescent river Port Pilot, Old Number 84. He was US Navy veteran; former member of the Pearl River County Cattlemen's Association; member of Sherrard Byrd Masonic, Poplarville; and life member of Greeno Masonic in Fairhope, Alabama. Above all, with the help of God, Captain Harold was instrumental in helping many around him reach their career and business aspirations.
