Michael Ralph Swords, age 71, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. Michael was born January 7, 1953 to Ralph and Vaneta Newsum Swords. He was a 1971 graduate of Whitehaven High School. Michael was a member of Cairo Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling, Ole Miss Football, watching sports on television, especially the New York Yankee’s.
Services will be at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Cairo Baptist Church, with Rev. Matt Parker officiating, burial will follow in the Ecru Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home is honored to assist the Swords family with the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Swords; his mother, Vaneta Newsum Swords; his son, Blake Swords and fiancé Maryana; daughter, Christie Selfors (Charlie); sister, Donna Sauer (Devin); two grandchildren, Natalie Grace Selfors and Caden Selfors; and a nephew, Clint Harper.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Swords and a special cousin, Ricky Gammell.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Swords, Keith Swords, Jimmy Hamblin, Chris Johnston, Dennis Foster, Mike Murphree, Sam Anderson, James Matthews and Rodney Mitchell.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 P.M. and on Tuesday from 12 to 1:00 P.M., all at Cairo Baptist Church.
