June Powell

June Powell, age 85, died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Pontotoc Nursing Home. She was born June 30, 1930 to Henry W. Hattox and Hurlie Waldrop Hattox. She married James T. “Jimmy” Powell, and together, they raised three children. She was a member of West Heights Baptist Church and a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

Services will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Dr. David Hamilton officiating, burial will follow in West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter: Patrice McCrary (Mike) of Bowling Green, KY; two sons: Truitt Powell (Natalie) and Kent Powell (Jennie), both of Pontotoc, MS; a sister-in-law: Wilma Hattox, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters: Kathleen Bullen, Lillie Van Hattox, Iris Richardson and Myra Burthardt, and a brother: Wright Hattox.

Pallbearers will be: Chris McCrary, Jeremiah Way, Andre Ball, Anthony Barton, Harry Floyd and Johnny McCharen. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Martin Rodgers, Bill Hattox, John A. “Chicken” Roberson and Britt Huffstatler.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8pm Saturday and from 1 to 2pm Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to West Heights Baptist Church, 328 W. Oxford Street, Pontotoc, MS 38863.
