Joseph Siolek, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, February 7th, 2018 surrounded by his wife and members of his family. Joseph was born on March 23rd, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served honorably in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. He survived a kamikaze attack while on board an LST, and went on to take part in post war mine clearing in the harbors of Japan. Soon after leaving the Navy in 1946, he began a 34 year career with the New York City Police Department, achieving the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 1983. Joseph and his wife Mary spent many retirement happy years in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania and then on Long Island, New York before moving to John Knox Village in Pompano Beach, Florida. Joseph is survived by his wife, Mary, and children Dorothy (wife of Peter Hlywa), Jospeh (husband of Raymond Marchman), and Valerie (wife of William Sirico), 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Joseph was pre-deceased by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister. He enjoyed golf, listening and dancing to big band music, traveling, playing cards and taking advantage of the craps table. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-5pm at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, 11:00am at St. Henry Catholic Church in Pompano Beach.
