Gloria Ann Burgess, also known as "Mrs. B" and "Mom Bird" died on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at her daughter's home in Deerfield Beach, after a 14 month battle with Lung Cancer. She was born on Nov. 18, 1939, in Beaver Falls, Pa., where she grew up, met and married Donald Lee Burgess, also of Beaver Falls, and soon after started her family. In 1967 she brought her family to Pompano Beach, Fl., where she quickly established herself as a cornerstone of her community and began her career in business management. She retired as owner of "Flowers by Thea" in 2005. She was known to manage all of her business endeavors with an iron fist and a generous heart. Gloria was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, a member of the Masonic Eastern Star, "Mother Adviser" for the Rainbow Girls, Assembly #43, a member of the PTA for several schools within the county, and an auxiliary member for the community baseball leagues. Besides her affiliations, she was also considered a source of food and shelter for many, and a source of
consolation and inspiration for others. Gloria is preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 6, 2008- they were married 50 years. She is survived by her daughter Doreen S. Roadman and her husband John, her son Donald L. Burgess II and his wife Diane, her daughter Lisa A. Quitoni and her
husband John, and her son William L. Burgess and his wife Trisha. She had 6 grandsons who adored her, Donald, Randall, Sean,
Justin, Dylan, and Camron. She is also survived by John Hutchinson, her companion of 5 years. Friends will be received at Kraeer Funeral Home, 217 East Hillsboro Blvd. Deerfield Beach, on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, between 6:00PM and 8:00 PM, followed by a service at Forest Lawn, 200 W Copans Road Pompano Beach, on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014 at 11:00 AM.
