Gerald S. Fahringer , of Ft Lauderdale FL, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2018 at the age of 85, at Holy Cross Hospital, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Jerry was born on May 4, 1932 in Kansas City MO. He graduated from East Orange High School in New Jersey, in 1950. He then went on to MIT, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Jerry served in the Air Force and the Peace Corp in the 1950’s. In 1955 he married his high school sweetheart, Joan Libby, they had three children; Kristine Leonard, Karl Fahringer and Susan Petit.
Although he had many business ventures his favorite was Leland Electrosystems which he bought in 1978. He retired in Fort Lauderdale with his second wife, Irene. In Fort Lauderdale he belonged to many charitable organizations. He was involved with the Navy League; he was a member of the Broward Sheriff’s Advisory Board. Jerry was an active supporter of Henderson Mental Health and The Parkinson’s Research Foundation. He also was long time member of the Coral Ridge Country Club, the Tower Club and the Coral Ridge Yacht Club in Fort Lauderdale.
He enjoyed sailing the open ocean, flying his own plane and traveling abroad. Jerry will be remembered as an intelligent, multi-talented, kind, caring, loving and man who gave his time, talent and money to help others. He was loved and respected by all of his family, friends and associates.
Jerry is preceded in death by his second wife Irene, his first wife Joan and their daughter Susan Petit.
He is survived by his daughter Kris Leonard and his son Karl Fahringer and daughter-in-law Roxanne Fahringer. Jerry is also survived by five grand children; Kyle, Kerry and Abby Leonard and Nick and Becca Fahringer.
