Clare A. Crockett, 97, of Fort Lauderdale entered into eternal rest on February 9, 2019. Clare was born on December 4, 1921, in Weehawken, New Jersey, to parents William H. Hayes and Jennie V. Mayer. After graduating from Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School, she enlisted in the Navy where she served as a Naval Intelligence Communicator during WWII. After discharge, she worked for American Airlines. In May of 1948 she married William Max Crockett and eventually settled in Hollywood, Florida where they owned a small motel. After moving to Fort Lauderdale, Clare worked as a legal secretary for 37 years.
Clare had a passion for music, cooking, and especially gardening and fishing with her husband and their friends on the west coast of Florida. She is predeceased by her devoted husband William Max Crockett of 60 years and her beloved sisters Virginia Nugent and Marie Church.
Clare is survived by her cherished nieces and nephews; Jeanne Church, her children and grandchildren of Fort Lauderdale; David Church and daughter of New Jersey; Dana Henry and daughter, Robert Nugent, Barnes Nugent, and Courtney Nugent and son, of West Virginia; Leslie Hartz and children of Virginia; loving cousins; Nancy Harth and Virginia Huber of New Jersey, Frank Mayer of Maryland and Ruth Mayer of Ohio.
Clare was a friend to all that knew her. She was always there with a friendly smile and helping hand. Clare will always remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
