Barbara was the beloved wife of Arthur T. Ciano (recently deceased) and was married for 68 years. Born and raised in Providence, RI, Barbara and her family were long-time residents of North Providence and Jamestown, RI before moving to Florida in 2015. She was the youngest daughter of Michael and Olympia Denardo. She is predeceased by her parents, her sisters Rita Salafia and Beatrice Macioci, and her brother Frank Denardo.
Barbara led an active and dedicated life embracing her family and community. She was passionate about art and design. She attended Bryant University and worked at Brown University before raising her children. Later she returned to work at Rhode Island School of Design where she also earned her certificate in interior design. In her early years she was a member of the Fruit Hill Juniors Women’s Club and she and her husband Arthur were actively involved with their church’s Christian Youth Organization and Cursillo.
Barbara is survived by her three children: Diane White (David), Lisa Gandy (Jay), and Christopher Ciano (Eric), her four grandchildren: Elizabeth Frazier (Ryan), Matthew White, Kathryn Harpool (Jeremiah), and Gregory Gandy (Charli), as well as several nephews and nieces.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church Monday, June 14th at 11 a.m. in Pompano Beach. Barbara will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made online to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at https://donate.lls.org/lls/donate in her memory.
