Today we celebrate the life of Patricia Drummond, who passed away January 28, 2021, at Montreal’s Fulford Residence. Predeceased by her husband of 48 years Norman (2001) and daughter Janet (2004), Patricia leaves behind her son John (Ann), daughters Sally and Mary Ann, son-in-law Hossein, grandchildren Trevor, Kristen, Nicole, Parisa, Mitra and Ariana, and great grandson Bennett.
Born in Timmins, Ontario, and raised in Gore Bay and Welland, Pat earned a B.A. in English literature at Western University and a Bachelor of Library Science at McGill University, where she met Norm. They spent the early years of their marriage at the McGill Subarctic Research Lab in Schefferville, Quebec, which remained a favourite highlight of her life. With their four children, Pat and Norm enjoyed happy summers at the family cottage they built in the Laurentians, and many fantastic travels across Canada and abroad. Pat was a stalwart volunteer at Cedar Park United Church in Pointe-Claire and at her children’s school libraries. After the kids grew up, she continued to volunteer at the John Rennie High School library, which later was renamed in her honour for her many years of service.
A voracious reader with a love of history, our mom was also an accomplished craftsperson and seamstress, and her shelves of homemade preserves and jams were a family favourite. Mom was a cheerful, steadfast presence in our lives, who cherished every occasion to spend time with her family. We will remember her as a resilient woman of integrity, decorum and quiet wisdom, and for her beautiful and enduring smile.
Special thanks to the staff at Fulford Residence, notably Joyce and Sharif, to Sheila her gentle and devoted caregiver, and to her long-time companion and friend, Fran.
