I have written in the past and as the year has passed, I cannot get Mark's death out of my mind. I've lost friends and family members. My sister passed in April from Lou Gehrig's disease. Those couple of years I spent as a teammate of Mark's many moons ago left an impression of such a great guy. A nice guy. A true free spirit within the confines of family values. R.I.P

Yet, over the last year I've gotten to know the Mark that you are and have been to so many...
And there are SO, SO many!
It's been a true gift to become acquainted with the you that you are and were to others.

You lived it my friend.

Your HUGE village misses that smile - that twinkle in your eye.

I haven't been able to write a word in the last year...
I just haven't known how to do justice to it all, to what I've witnessed in the hearts and minds of all of those you've touched.

It's been overwhelming, Mark. You yourself would not believe it. Yet, perhaps you would. These are all your people after all.

Just know that you did good. So good.

And those who love you are living a little more 'Mark' as they approach each and every day.

My name is Michael Cunningham. Many, many years ago the Pogue family was kind enough to take me and a friend into their home as their town's little league hosted my team from the small town of Ilion, in Upstate N.Y. They had already come from Canada to play us and it was our turn to visit Beaconsfield. For some reason, even after all these years and even though it was for only a few days of my life, Mark's name came to mind. I decided to look him up and was sad to learn of his passing. I immediately recognized his face, albeit 42 years later. He and his family were all so nice and I remember, being young, asking him to speak French for us since visiting Quebec was like traveling to another world for us small town kids. Now someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember correctly, his Dad was President at the time of Helene Curtis Canada. Am I remembering correctly? And his Mom was so nice. I remember she tried to kiss all the boys goodbye and all them avoided the peck but me! We had a lot of fun in Beaconsfield and I always wondered about the Pogue family. I do hope you are all holding up these days. He was much to young to leave this earth. I'm sorry we never stayed in touch after that memorable baseball gathering but it and the hospitality of Mark and his entire family have stayed with me all these years. I wish you all the best and pray for many blessings upon you as you miss your dear father, brother, son and friend. God bless you all.

looking back, smiling over our hits and misses in life, celebrating it all

Today we learned of Mark's passing. Truly gutted to hear this tragic news. We remember Mark's kindness and generosity. About 18 years ago, we had our front walk and side porch done by his company of young men. Mark's family were in the process of having their complete kitchen reno and he needed to get the old kitchen cupboards gone. He generously offered them to us. They now hold a special special in our house. Peace be with you and your family.

I met Mark a long time ago because my brother was friends with Keith. Mark was as tough as nails, welcoming, super hospitable and a great cook. Mark taught me how to make the best chicken wings ever.

My deepest condolences to the Pogue family. Mark will be missed but he will live in your hearts forever and you will see Mark again in heaven.

Our hearts and love are with you after losing such a significant man in your lives. We heard of Mark's passing through friends at Bark Lake and were stunned having just sat with him on the Lefebvre dock this past summer. We would rather reach out to give you huge hugs but please know that we think of you often.

We last saw Mark on Nov. 24 when he stopped by to assess some repair work to be done next spring.  As always, there was comraderie and he was telling us about his upcoming trip to Costa Rica.  Just a few days ago, my wife even remarked that they would soon be leaving and we were looking forward to his future report about this trip!
Then this morning, that letter from Beton Unique arrived in the mail.  So terribly unexpected that we are both stunned and devastated!
Devastated, because over the years, Mark became far more than just a contractor.  As we got to know Mark, we found that he had integrity, honesty, compassion and so many other great qualities.  Truly, a very rare person, A MAN OF HIS WORD!  Whenever he would stop by the house, it was more like a family member arriving for a much too short visit.
Mark will truly be missed by so many of us whose lives he touched.  To all members of his family, please accept our deepest and most sincere condolences.

Mark will be remembered by all who have been so well served by 'Beton Unique' for so many years. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

First Met Mark 10 years ago, his snow blower  guy had taken out a pier on our drive, I will be back in the Spring to fix it, sure!!!, April 1st the Beton van shows up and fix it he did. Several landscape projects later, latest one this last Summer, had the next one lined up, not to be!!. Mark you were a gent, man of your word, condolences to your family.

My daily beliefs change almost each and every day. As the days on the calendar change so does the way I view life. Some days it's good experiences that shine a new light on my views and other times it's the darker ones that capture my attention. Today, Friday, December 4, 2015, the day of Mark Pogue (1962-2015) funeral, my outlook on life took a completely different angle. Mark was the type of man that was adored by all and his kind heart and warmth made it easy to feel right at home. Overnight, this hero was removed from the people who loved him and taken to the Kingdoms of Heaven. What I've learnt today is that what you do and whom you touch in this world is immensely critical. The amount of people that gathered together to celebrate Marks passing was simply inspiring. Although this may come off as a downer, the amounts of hearts that were left heartbroken by the passing was short of a miracle and left me with a feeling of amazement. This reminds me of the brilliant quote, The Effect You Have on Others is the Most Valuable Currency There is, Jim Carrey. If I can manage to touch the hearts of a fraction of the ones Mark did, I'll be happy with who I've become.

While I haven't seen Mark in over 30 years, what impressed me the most about him was his courage to go out and stake his own claim and become a entrepreneur when he was scarcely 20 years old, which gave me the incentive to do the same.

To Sue, Taylor, Allie, Jack, - we remember Mark so well as we had a couple of phenomenal years when living across from each other almost 15 years ago. Mark was always helping everyone in our family and full of heart energy.  I still remember the help during the ice storm, the new paved driveway, the wall completion, just some of few that he always went out of his way. Even getting my retired father in law work to keep him a little busy. Best of all was the couple Trick or treat rounds we did with wine or coronas to enjoy the eve as families together. Mark was one of the most generous individuals  I have ever known; from his early days as the one with the paper route where he would share his profits with us at the Dairy Queen, to his early entrepeneur days of "Down to Earth Landscaping" where our summer student wages provided enough $$$ to pay for school, we knew he would have given any of us the shirt off his back. We learned many things from Mark- kindness, the importance of family, humilty, friendship, generosity and how to live life to the fullest. He will never be forgotten!!!

While we were traveling in a motorhome there and back I got a good chance get to know Mark a little better. One thing that sticks in my mind is how proud he was of his kids. His love for Sue was also very obvious. Mark volunteered to be responsible for food for the trip. I can tell you first hand his culinary skills were second to none. He will be sadly missed at Christmas park on Sunday nights for his wit and good nature. Rest in peace Mark, you were a beauty!

I knew Mark as a young man and only crossed paths with him infrequently over the years however his warmth, spirit and humour remain close at hand. I lost a good friend this week. A person I can always count on. I met Mark 30 yrs ago at the Canadian tire on pierrefonds blvd. he sold me his lawn maintenance contracts. He said just give me 20 bucks each but I want you to take care of my clients. He was a class act and gave me great advice in my pursuit of owning a great company.  It was people like Mark that inspired me to move on. Always there to answer my questions about cement helping build over ten buildings.  Lifting my spirit when I was down. A positive person , an upbeat  really cooooool guy. I loved they way he talked. Words of wisdom he was one of a kind . My highest sympathy to his wife and children family and friends.  I hope one day to meet him again so I can tell him myself what a huge difference he made in my life and I m sure a thousand more. I ll miss him deeply along with everyone else. If I could just go back in time and get one wish.  I would ask to keep this guy around forever . :)
