It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dorothy Uda-May Hamilton (née Brown). She left this earth peacefully on November 17th, 2021, at the Ste-Anne’s Veterans’s Hospital in Sainte Anne de Bellevue, Quebec. She was 91 years of age, and still shining brightly. Though we miss her dearly, this was a life to celebrate.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Erwin Chadsey Hamilton and her five children: Carol (Ralph), Douglas (Pamela), Robert, James (Liane), John (Maureen), her ten grandchildren: Linda, Laura, Michael, Heather, Christopher, Sarah, Emily, Derek, Kenneth, Laura, and by her great-grandchildren, Freya, Henry, Kate and Emily. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Chester and Dorothy Brown (née Carlyle).
Born in Vancouver Canada, January 11, 1930, she was a child of the Canadian west. Dorothy enjoyed working in Calgary, and loved to ride horses in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains — long rides until the Alberta skies would fill with stars. She loved ice dancing, the ocean, learning, baking cookies, music, and most of all, she loved people. Trained classically on the piano, Dorothy sang and played popular music by ear long into the night at house parties, accompanied by her uncle on guitar.
Dorothy met her tall, handsome husband Erwin Hamilton in Calgary, and they shared a happy marriage for 67 years. Their dream in life was to have children together and raise a loving family. This was their life’s work.
She will be remembered for her happy nature and magnificent smile, loving kindness and generosity, natural intelligence and beauty, and her sympathetic common-sense approach to life.
A private family celebration of life was held November 26th. If she was able, she would ask that you not send flowers, but instead consider a donation to the Ste. Anne’s Hospital Foundation (www.sahfoundation.ca), in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, where we could better give comfort to those who served their country.
