Randall Griggs Moore, 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 in Plano, Texas. Previously a long time resident of Nacogdoches, his life began in Alexandria, Louisiana on July 30, 1946, eldest child of Ernest and Annette (nee Gest) Moore. A graduate of Tioga High School in Pineville, Louisiana, he went on to enlist in the US Army where he met his wife, Rose Ann (nee Hillman). His military service spanned 21 years and included a tour of Vietnam, two tours in Germany and assignments in various states. During this time he and Rose traveled extensively at each assignment, he earned his Bachelors of Science degree at the University of Maryland, and they gained treasured friends at each destination.
Upon retiring from the Army, Randy and Rose settled in Nacogdoches, Texas, where they enjoyed all that east Texas has to offer – lush landscape, abundant fishing, extraordinary gardening, and even more cherished friends. Randy was forever an outdoorsman and did not require much to enjoy it. The piney woods called to him and he answered with tranquil walks or raking the forever falling pine straw. The large garden he nurtured always flourished.
Randy leaves behind his beloved wife of 51 years, Rose, daughter Dixie (Charles) Hacker, son Robert (Caitlyn) Moore, brother Russell Moore and sister Rebecca Peel as well as grandchildren Jacob, Ethan, Garrett and Kaitlyn Hacker.
A pillar of strength and devoted to his family, he will always be remembered for his quiet wit, generous heart and love of family. His service to his country and fellow man inspire each of us to carry him forever in our hearts with the fondest of memories.
