Mattie was a long time resident of Plano.
She has four children, Shelia Parks and Dan of Wagoner, OK., Kenneth Mayse and Beatriz of Plano, TX., Deborah Mayse of Dallas, TX., and Carter Mayse and Patricia of Carrollton, TX. Six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Arthur & Nellie Carter and grandparents, John & Honor Carter all of McKinney, TX., her sisters Dorothy Kiefer of Allen, TX., Chestine Cline of McKinney, TX., Wayne Carter of Bridge City, TX and Tom Carter of Princeton, TX.
Mattie was married to Ray J. Mayse for 20 years and was a Navy wife and mother. She has a sense of organizational skills that made relocating often look easy. Within hours of being in a “new house” she had made it look and feel like “home”.
Acquaintances often wondered how she managed to look so fashionable and well-groomed on a sailors pay…and her children were well dressed too! Mom was an accomplished seamstress and made clothes that her daughters wore with pride including her daughter Sheila’s Chantilly Lace wedding gown and train, she also made clothes for many girls going to Prom, or just some baby clothes for a new mother. Being raised on a farm during the depression, she knew the importance of being thrifty. Mom was recycling LONG before it was an environmental issue. She grew up learning how to cook like no other, keep a house that sparkled clean and still enjoy family and friends.
Mattie was a Christian and was baptized into the Lord’s Church in Beaumont, TX., in the early spring of 1958. She immediately became a valuable worker for her Lord by teaching Vacation Bible School for that summer. The sound of her singing “The Great Physician” (the theme of her class of 3rd graders) was heard often in our home during the 2 week study. Years later she was a member of the Allen, TX. church of Christ before becoming disabled and unable to attend worship services.
Her grandchildren remember holidays at Nana’s house and especially Christmas. She made memories for all of them to last a life time. Her In-Law children loved her and respected her and cherished her loving ways.
Proverbs 31: “Her children arise and call her blessed”….. We love you Mom.
