She graduated from Sugar Grove High School in Sugar Grove, Virginia. She later received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas.
She was married to Ernest C. Eberle, Sr. on November 23, 1961 in Washington D.C.
Proven to be a fighter from an early age, she survived both rheumatic fever as a young child and a serious school bus accident leaving her hospitalized for numerous months during high school.
She was an active member of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in Plano, Texas for more than 40 years, serving in the Altar’s Guild, the Food Pantry and participating in the Women’s Group. She had a passion for crafts, including leatherwork, ceramics, macrame, needlework, cross-stitch and sewing. But her primary interest in her later years was quilting. She was a thoughtful and giving person. One example being a quilt she made for a fellow parishioner who was wheelchair bound. Before being presented to her friend she had the quilt signed by all the ladies of the church.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Ernie, her daughter Nancy, of Oklahoma City, OK, her son Ernest, Jr. and daughter-in-law Joni, and her grandchildren, Kayla, Brady and Ryan, all of College Station, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters Judy Weade and husband Ronnie of Newport News, VA, Christine Terry and husband Justin, and brothers Ronald Brooks and wife Lila, and Stephen Brooks and wife Janet, all of Marion, VA and sister-in-law Jessie Sheppard of Mohawk, NY. Also numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Addie and Rush Brooks of Marion, Virginia, and her brother, Darrell Brooks.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Ted Dickey Funeral Home, located at 2128 18th Street, Plano, Texas 75074.
The funeral service for Joyce will held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Christ Church Plano, located at 4550 Legacy Drive, Plano, Texas 75024.
Joyce will be laid to rest with a committal service on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 1:30 PM at Plano Mutual Cemetery in Plano, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association in Joyce's name.
