Harry was born January 23, 1931 in Lead, South Dakota, to Gottfrid “Emil” and Agnes Olafson Ostrom. An infant brother Robert preceded him in death. He moved to Southern California as a boy and graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1948. He then graduated from Long Beach City College in 1950 and from the University of Southern California (USC) in 1954. While at USC he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and served in many different roles including President of his chapter.
Harry began a 40-year career with State Farm Insurance in 1954. He worked in the Berkley and Santa Ana, California offices, and the Bloomington, Illinois office before arriving at the North Texas Regional Office in Dallas in 1979 where he worked until retiring in 1994.
While working at the Santa Ana office, Harry met the love of his life and beloved bride of 57 years, Donna Glenne Knight. They were married August 11, 1957 and were blessed with four children. Harry loved to spend his time traveling, golfing, and visiting friends and relatives coast to coast. He frequently carried his camera around his neck catching family and friends on film. Texas and Kona, Hawaii sunsets were also a favorite subject.
Harry is survived by his wife Donna and their four children: Karen (Dan) Meister of Richardson; Eric (Carolyn) Ostrom of Austin; Joanna (Rich) Lockhart of Sachse; and Tekla (Scott) Mann of El Paso. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Cecilia Meister; Annika and Thomas Ostrom; Audrey Lockhart; and Reese, Caroline and Walter Mann.
