Douglas Marvin Barrow

He was the youngest of eight children. At the age of 3 years, he and three of his sisters entered the Presbyterian Children’s Home which was located at the present site of Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

Upon graduating from Hillcrest High School in 1957 he attended Paris Junior College and later New Mexico State.

Doug excelled in sports. He played football and baseball four years at Hillcrest and two years at Paris Jr. College including the National Tournament in year two. Paris played New Mexico Military Institute in a sudden death game to determine who would go to the National Tournament. Doug hit a home run which gave Paris the win. The opposing pitcher was Roger Staubach who wrote about it in one of his books. Doug obtained All American status his sophomore year at Paris. He signed a professional baseball contract as pitcher with the Houston Colt 45/Houston Astros after leaving Paris Junior College. However, his baseball career ended abruptly with a major injury to his pitching arm. His entire business career was in banking and finance. He worked at several banks and savings and loans and finished his career as a bank regulator with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Doug served in the Army Reserves for seven years. Doug and Jackie met while both were working at the Republic National Bank. They married in 1966 and lived in the Dallas area except for a short time in Hartford, CT while working for the FDIC.

Doug is survived by his wife Jackie, daughter Sunnye and husband Steve, son Kyle and four grandchildren Seth, Sadye, Logan and Colton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. His pleasures in life were his relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ, Jackie, his children, grandchildren, dogs, and friends. Doug loved outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, golf

and traveling. He had a talent as a handyman and was always glad to help others.
