Dora Diana Alvarez (Plano, TX) – wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher and friend passed away Friday, November 23rd, 2018 at 12:20 am due to cancer at 73 years of age. Her strong devotion to family and firm belief in her Catholic faith helped support her and her family through her struggle and gave them all peace during her passing.
Dora was born September 26, 1945 to Juan and Justina Gonzalez in Benavides, TX. She graduated from Texas A&M Kingsville. She married husband, Gilbert Rolando Alvarez on June 6, 1969 and together they had daughter Aomi and sons, Gilbert Omar and Orlando.
Dora retired from teaching after 50 years of service to the children and families of Texas public education. Even upon retirement she continued to work part time at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Dallas as a Reading Coach. Her life was dedicated to the education of children and ultimately created a family of wonderful friendships throughout her years of teaching.
Dora loved her children and supported them in their many endeavors including spending many, many Texas evenings under the Friday night lights watching her daughter cheer, her sons play football and her husband coach. She loved every minute of it and would follow the sport of football long after her family retired from the sport, forever cheering on the Dallas Cowboys.
Her children grew and married giving her eight little blessings that would light up her world until her last day. Her granddaughters lovingly called her Nana and she loved each of them with all her heart traveling to Denver, Wichita, and Garland to celebrate most holidays and birthdays making each of them feel uniquely special and creating many memories of family vacations to Hot Springs, Arkansas and South Texas with extended family.
Dora loved to travel and would see most of the country during her life along with travels to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Italy, Spain, and Mexico. She will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile and her selflessness in giving of her time and love to everyone she met. She lived her life with grace and humility and never complained about hardships. She was a perfect example of what we each strive to be in life.
Dora is survived by her husband Gilbert Rolando, daughter, Aomi Diaz (David), sons Gilbert Omar Alvarez (Amy) and Orlando Alvarez (Leslie) and granddaughters Sofia, Alayna, Solana, Gabriela, Amaia, Alivia, Aria, and Araya.
