Barbara was born to Gertrude and William Gatliff on May 4, 1944 in Santa Rosa, Texas. Her father William served for most of her childhood in the Sheriff’s Department of Brownsville County, Texas. Gail and her sister Billie often laughed at the fact that their home was the county jail growing up. Quite a daunting feature for any teenage girl. Gail graduated from Brownsville High School in 1962 and went on to study Education at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas. She was a sophomore in college home for the summer when she fell in love with Bill Crowe. They married on December 31, 1964 and soon after, began their family, a family that Gail was immensely proud of throughout her life.
While a young mother of three, Gail poured into her family, community and church. Most weekends were filled enjoying watching her three children Deborah, Will and Stacy competing in swim meets all over South Texas or participating in church activities at First Baptist Church of Brownsville. Gail also greatly enjoyed the extensive family on both sides who have remained close for a lifetime. They spent weekends enjoying the shores of Padre Island with their young family and later in life enjoyed annual trips to Cloudcroft, New Mexico with dear friends.
In 1984 the family moved to Bryan College Station where Gail and Bill enjoyed raising their teenage children. Gail served as the Pastor’s Secretary at First Baptist Church of Bryan,Texas.
In 1994, the family moved to Houston where Gail served as an administrative assistant at First Baptist Church of Houston.
In 1999, Bill and Gail moved to Roundrock,Texas where Gail served as the Financial Officer at First Baptist Church Georgetown. It was during this time that Gail became actively involved with Oak Ridge Disciple House. Oak Ridge is a Christian faith-based recovery and rehabilitation program for men and their families. Gail served actively on their board as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from 2010 until her death.
Gail had extensive knowledge with her career in running church financial business and did so with the utmost integrity and character.
In 2014, Gail and Bill retired to Little Elm,Texas.
Throughout her life, Gail was an avid and gifted seamstress. She loved making clothes for her children and grandchildren, who lovingly called her Grammy. Gail had quite a creative streak and enjoyed cross-stitching and creating works of art with her stamps. Gail loved communicating with her extended and cherished family of cousins, in-laws and dear friends. Gail’s beloved husband Bill was a devout Aggie and Gail was proud to be a strong supporter of her favorite team. She never missed watching a football game and looked forward to each half time to hear the Aggie Fight Song. Gail was a gifted home cook and loved preparing delicious meals for her family and friends.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law. Gail is survived by her husband Bill of 54 years, their three children and their spouses, Deb and Steve Schlosser, Will and Ashley Crowe, and Stacy and Scott Simonson.
