John was the beloved and devoted brother of Thomas J. Kennelly, Jr. (the late Regina M. Kennelly), Virginia A. LaMonte, Maureen A. Kennelly, and the late Patricia A. Kennelly. He was a cherished uncle and great-uncle, with a special place in his heart for his numerous nieces and nephews: Thomas Kennelly, III, Kristen and their children Alex, Kurt, and Julia; Kyle Kennelly, Meredith and their children Kyle Jr., Jillian and Lila; Robert H. LaMonte , Alexandra and their son, Connor; Christopher R. LaMonte; Michelle LaMonte and her son JJ; and Jenna LaMonte. He will also be deeply missed by his many cousins and extended family.
A proud veteran, John served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1970. His military service was a source of great pride, and he carried the values of honor, duty, and respect throughout his life. John was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving the rank of 4th degree in both the New Hyde Park and Plainview chapters. His nightly rituals consisted of Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and The Price is Right. John loved sports, especially Baseball, Football and Basketball.
John was a kind-hearted soul who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He had a deep love for animals, especially his beloved dogs, Bijou, Murphy and Rocky, who brought him comfort and companionship. He also found great happiness in a game of Bingo, his morning tea ritual, and dining at his favorite restaurant, the Main Event. John was a faithful member of Notre Dame Parish and Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, where he volunteered as an usher for both, embodying his lifelong commitment to faith and community.
John’s family and friends will remember him for his warm, gentle nature, his sense of humor, and his unwavering kindness. He touched the lives of many with his generosity of spirit, and his presence will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 11, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes, 655 Old Country Road, Plainview, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church, Hicksville, NY. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY.
