Edward T. Coyne, age 98, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024. Born in Manhattan, New York, on December 2nd, 1925, he was the son of Margaret and Thomas Coyne. Edward married the love of his life, Audrey Schultz, on April 23, 1949, and they shared a remarkable 75 years of love and companionship.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey, and their daughter, Jean Marie Stalzer, and her husband, John. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Marie Coyne, and his sister-in-law, Margaret Coyne. His grandchildren—Michelle Pacheco (Ivan), Steven Coyne (Shelby), Thomas Coyne, Lisa Marie Coyne (Sanuki), Jack Stalzer, and Shannon Stalzer—will forever cherish his memory, as will his two great-grandchildren, Abby and Gavin Pacheco. Edward was also deeply proud of his extended family, including his nieces and nephews—Margaret, Michele, Mary Beth, Gerry, William, Terry, Marie (Bunny), and Carl—and their children, Christine, Amy, and Katie.
Edward was preceded in death by his son, Edward J. Coyne, with whom he shared a deep bond and was immensely proud. He was also preceded by his siblings Eileen, Patricia, Muriel, and his brother, John Coyne.
A proud veteran, Edward served with distinction aboard the USS Intrepid during World War II from 1943 to 1945, surviving multiple kamikaze attacks. He was a proud Plankowner and remained deeply connected to the Intrepid throughout his life, playing an instrumental role in her transformation into a museum at Pier 86. Edward was overjoyed to attend the 80th anniversary of the Intrepid’s commissioning in 2023, marking a proud chapter of his life.
In his career, Edward served as a Federal Narcotics Officer and a US Customs Department of the Treasury Special Agent, rising to the rank of Regional Director of Customs of the North East Region. His dedication to service extended into his community, where he was an active member of St. Pius X RC Parish.
Edward’s generous spirit and infectious personality left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for his family. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his memory will continue to live on in the lives he touched.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius X RC Parish, X Court, Plainview, NY 11803 on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow at St Margaret's Cemetery, 1000 Washington Ave, Plainview, NY 11803.
