Paul was born on October 7, 1942, in San Francisco. He was the son of Carl and Dollie Mehus. Carl was an immigrant from Norway in 1925 and Dollie’s parents immigrated from Norway in 1908.
In 1952 the family, Carl, Dollie, Paul & loving sister Marilyn moved from San Francisco to Redwood City. Paul attended Redwood City schools, graduated from Sequoia High School, where he met and married his loving wife of 57 years, Jacqueline Allen.
As a young man, he belonged to the Cub and Boy Scouts of America and the Sons of Norway. Paul began his career drafting for well-known electrical engineering firms which eventually led to a partnership with David M. Arrigoni & Assoc. in 1962. In 1975, after building their dream home in Los Gatos (Santa Cruz Mountains), he decided that he wanted to design-build custom residential homes. In 1978, Milton Nicholas, Paul’s brother-in-law, became a partner in the business and later Mark Quale joined them as a partner. Mehus Construction built many beautiful homes in the Bay Area. They developed strong relationships with their clients, employees that were like family and talented sub-contractors. In 2011, Paul and Jackie retired and moved to their ranch in Fair Play, California.
Paul was passionately involved in various boat clubs and car clubs. He enjoyed water skiing and snow skiing. He loved restoring old wooden boats, Porsche’s and classic cars. He loved to play the accordion at family gatherings, as well as A.C.B.S. boating events. He shared his life with several loving pets; dogs, horses and cats. He loved life.
