Mary Jane Bailey was born July 25, 1926 to parents Inez Pullen and Jules Asher in Los Angeles, California. “Janie”, as she was known to her friends, passed away peacefully after a short illness with her family at her bedside. Janie attended Rio Vista High School and graduated in 1944. During her years in High School, she met the love of her life, Jackson Bailey. A separation during World War II left them apart. They were re-united 15 years later after the war. Jackson and Janie were married in Placerville on August 3, 1963. Janie was completely devoted to her family. She raised 5 children and was at Jackson’s side, being a big part of his political and professional life. Janie loved to play golf, and met many wonderful friends while a member at Cold Springs Country Club. Her real passion was painting. She painted many one of a kind paintings on porcelain. Janie’s husband Jackson, her children, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her life. She always loved the ocean as a young girl, and that led to annual vacation to the beach. All the youngsters got to experience the beach vacations. This tradition still continues 75 years later. Janie loved baseball. She played, as a young girl, on a women’s baseball team during World War II at the short stop position. Many times she was witnessed instructing youngsters on the fundamentals of the game.
Janie is survived by son Dan Musick, Daughters Nancy and Gay Musick and twin sons James and Chris Bailey; grandchildren Jason Musick, Melanie (Musick) Zumwalt, Katie (Musick) Morton, Amanda Nevel, Lindsay (Olsen) Dawson, Ryan Olsen, Krista Altermat, and Gavin Bailey; twelve great grandson’s and three great granddaughters. In Janie’s words: “I’ve got a football team and cheer leaders to boot”!!
Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at 1:00 p.m., at Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home, 2855 Cold Springs Road, Placerville, CA. Remembrances may be posted at chapelofthepinesfunerals.com.
