Elsie Louise Hardie was born on June 9, 1923 and passed away on August 9, 2016 at the age of 93. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband William, both longtime Placerville residents until she recently moved to Tucson, Arizona. Elsie is survived by her five children and their loved ones, Jeanne Hardie & David Ferrebee, William & Conni Hardie, James Hardie & Ayleen O’Connell, Arthur & Michelle Hardie and Mary & Michael Ottman. Elsie also had nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren that meant the world to her.
Elsie was born of immigrant parents from Italy in the small community of Castle Crags in Northern California. She grew up in Weed, CA and attended UC Berkeley. There she met and married the love of her life, William Hardie. During the war years, she and Bill lived in Arkansas and Berkeley. Later they settled in Placerville and started their family. Elsie was a devoted wife and mother, having raised five children who all graduated from college, an accomplishment that made her extremely proud. Later, Elsie joined El Dorado High School as the Library Assistant. During this time Elsie also went back to college to complete her AA degree.
Elsie possessed a unique gift to make all who graced her door feel welcome. Even in the years when Alzheimer’s tried to claim her mind, she was the most gracious hostess to all who entered her home.
Elsie Hardie’s life will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Placerville, CA on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 11 AM. Interment will be at 2 PM in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org in tribute to Elsie. Arrangements entrusted to Chapel of the Pines, Placerville, CA.
Rest in peace, Mom, we know you are dancing your way through Heaven and singing, “Oh What a Beautiful Morning.”
